Should the US Congress force Detroit automakers to create cars with higher fuel mileage efficiency?
I don’t think the US Congress should be forcing people to do all that much at all, much less forcing us to create cars with higher fuel efficiency. Part of the reason why it is difficult for US automakers to compete with foreign companies in the first place is due to all of the rules and regulations forced on them by our government. We can’t have it both ways. We want cheap cars that run forever, never have any problems, unlimited warranties, insanely great gas mileage, and made by blue collar workers who make a $90k salary and get 5 weeks vacation every year. And when we can’t get it, we just ask the government to FORCE these companies to give it to us. Reality doesn’t work that way. We are either going to have to wise up soon, or risk learning these things the hard way. And that lesson has already begun as more and more US automakers lose more market share to foreign companies that laugh at our suffocating rules and regulations all the way to the bank.
