Should the United States start Increasing the size of its military budget to match Chinas?
“Let him who desires peace, prepare for war.” – Vegetius Epitoma Rei Militaris, 4th century, A.D True then true today. What a lot of people do not realize is that what Donald Rumsfeld said is absolutely correct. “You go to war with the army you have; not the army you wish you had.” Modern aircraft, ships, communications systems, anti-missile systems etc. take years to develop, build and deploy. If a war broke out today, we would fight it with the airplanes we have, the ships we have and systems we have. There would be no replacements for loses. We would not be able to build and deploy any more in a time frame that would make any difference. That means you must start today to build what you will need five, ten or twenty years hence. True, military spending primarily provides jobs in the US. The problem is we don’t have enough smart people. Most of the engineers we have are either nearing retirement or are first generation immigrants. Many from China. You can expect that supply to dry up
