Should the united states have dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end WW II?
The Japanese Army was huge and did not consider itself defeated. Credit to those of you who knew of the coup attemp and the impact of the Russians entering the war. The Japanese had an Army just outside of Tokyo of more than 100,000 trained troops. There were still millions of Japanese soldiers, many hardened veterans, else where in and out of country. They had also taught every able bodied civilian how to fight the Americans to thier own death. The Japanese public was extremely compliant, especially to the Emporer As for the bomb, I would hope the US public would have burned President Truman at the stake if he had not dropped those bombs and instead sent a million boys, mostly in thier teens and early twenties into a buzz saw of horrific killing on both sides.
