There are application areas and there is also a group of “enabling sciences and technologies” that are inherently multidisciplinary. A successful proposal would incorporate a number of the latter but still have its driving focus be a single problem. The biggest weakness with many of the ASAP proposals we received for the current program was that a number of universities did not propose a single, driving problem. We are serious about this.
