Should the shankill butchers reform?
They were murdering, cowardly scum. What do they have to do with Scottish football ? For anyone who does not know, the ‘Shankhill butchers’ kidnapped Catholics, at random, in Ulster in the 1970’s, none of whom were ever proven to have any connection with the IRA, and tortured them with meat cleavers and knives among other things. They have been described by criminal physcoligists as ‘serial killers’, who manipulated the political climate as a ‘reason’ for their revolting, cowardly crimes, as opposed to any loyalty to any paramilitary organisation or political cause.. The leader of the gang, Lenny Murphy, was bullied at school because he had a ‘catholic-sounding’ name. This most likely played a major part in his physcotic hatred of Catholics. He was shot dead, on the Shankhill road, by an IRA hit-squad in 1982. There is strong evidence to suggest that they were alerted to his whereabouts, (not an easy thing, given the situation at the time), by the UVF, who saw him as an embarrasment. A
