Should the Red Sox trade David Ortiz?
Good grief NO! It’s already looking possible that the Sox are going to lose Manny Ramirez this off-season (rumours are abundant that he’s asked to be traded), so to trade Big Papi as well would destroy any offence we have. Right now the priority for Theo Epstein and the Red Sox Front Office is to strengthen the starting rotation (currently it stands at Schilling in his final season, Wakefield and Papelbon). They will also have to look at who is going to take-over as the closer from Papelbon, and decide whether Delcarmen, Hansen and Timlin are a strong enough bullpen. Pitching has to be the priority this off-season, along with finding offensive help if Manny does leave. I also disagree with your assessment of David as “one dimensional” – he played pretty good first-base during the Interleague games in NL ballparks. The Sox can expect another good season out of David, and then maybe look at his future.
