Should the promotion of secular humanism involve “bashing” religion?
Religion would be harmless if each and every human believed in and worshipped the same God, but since we are not programmable robots, religious differences will continue to be a major source of violence amongst humans. Thus, from my perpective, if “bashing” it is what it takes to promote awareness as to the dangers of religion, then so be it!
I don’t believe in bashing religion. It is no better than bashing anything else, and no more effective. However, whether promoting secular humanism, religion, or anything else, one should promote historical accuracy, critical thinking, logic, and evidence. I wouldn’t call honest critiques or questions “bashing”.
It’s pretty much unavoidable in our society. Just because we don’t agree with other’s theological viewpoints doesn’t allow us to knock their beliefs. I know that there is a a lot of Islam bashing as well as Mormon bashing since their viewpoints are much different than the rest of Western society so they fall under the pressure to get bashed, especially Islam since NATO, I mean the US is in Iraq still.
