It should not be mounted flush against any part of the machine, as space is needed to allow air to come into the precleaner. The 3-inch precleaner requires 1.8 inches below the precleaner and the 4-in. precleaners require 2.2 inches below the precleaner. The 6-in. precleaners require 3 inches below the precleaner. The 8-in. precleaners require 5 inches below the precleaner. We do not recommend putting the precleaner high in the air on an extended pipe. The farther away the air intake from the engine, the more added restriction.
