Should the Mir have been destroyed?

Well, …, MIR was literally falling apart in space. It had served it’s purpose and proved that long term space stations were viable but as unit it was falling apart. In the last months of it’s life it was plagued by a serious of catastrophic failures that almost ended the live of the crew members e.g. Electrical failures, gyroscopic failure (very nearly tore it apart), and life support failure (The had to burn oxygen candles to release oxygen so they could breathe). You really wouldn’t have wanted to visit it. It was just too dangerous. You couldn’t land it so there was no other option but to decommission it let it burn up in Earth’s atmosphere. So, yeah, it was time for it to go. Now as far as the space shuttle goes,it has served a purpose and is passed it’s life expectancy as a spacecraft and frankly the design was a dangerous one. No one would be boo-hooing if we had an adequate replacement. That’s the problem. There is no adequate replacement. We (the USA) axed all of the replacem
