Should the minority groups in a society be compelled to follow the views of the majority?

This is why I love my constitution so dearly. Everybody (18 and older) has a vote. Everybody has a say. Freedom of speech and the right to peaceably assemble. People of different minority groups have their ideologies, but that does not mean that their way of thinking is different from all other people or even the majority. A large majority of people in the U.S. (though not so much anymore) is a certain ethnicity. However, ideologies do not follow the percentages of majority vs. minority groups. This is evidenced in voting and legislation: legislative decisions–and even decisions made by the Supreme Court–have been so divisive that the split doesn’t follow party lines, minority group percentages, political action groups, religious beliefs, or any other demographic. The laws and customs of this country are truly made by everybody. Because the laws and customs are made by everybody in this country, then all should be required to obey the law of the land that they have helped create.
