Should the IFR aircraft climbing in VMC be called visual climb/descent?

The NAS IG will not be using the phraseology visual’ in relation to this procedure as the term has associations with terrain clearance whilst being radar vectored. IFR pickup is a new and very different term that may cause confusion. The Australian Government has agreed to adopt the National Airspace System (NAS) as the new airspace system for Australia. The intention is to implement the FAA system as near as practicably possible. Some terms and procedures will be different because they are new to Australian aviation. This particular term is unique and for that reason it is simpler to train and educate pilots and controllers.
