Should the government pay for abortions for low income women and teenage girls?
Yes. Not because the women and girls shouldn’t have to be responsible for it though. Here’s the thing, people (thats right, women don’t get themselves pregnant)are going to keep getting pregnant and many of those people are going to be GROSSLY irresponsible. I think that all the babies that end up in toilets, trash cans, alleys, are proof that people aren’t being responsible about unwanted pregnancies. Add to that the number of women who are on public assistance and may never be off of it because they have children that they can’t afford. The old “You need to be responsible” approach isn’t new, and while people *should* be responsible, THIS APPROACH SIMPLY DOESN’T WORK WHATSOEVER AT ALL. Let’s face it, abortions are cheaper than prenatal care+delivery+WIC+foodstamps+medicaid for 18 years+social services if the child isn’t treated well+court costs and jail if the child doesn’t turn out well. And guess what, people’s tax dollars are used for things they are strongly against all the time.
