Should the Government abandon health care for the time being and aggressively focus on job growth?
Sustainable recovery will not be had with unemployment hovering at 10.2 % and I would hazard to say the real unemployment number is much higher and one must also consider those that are not fully employed. Furthermore, people that are employed are so fearful that they may lose their jobs that they are not spending enough cash, rather hoarding it. Adding 30-40 million more people to the health care system is going to require a tremendous amount of new money regardless of any savings that can be squeezed out of the existing system. With heavy government involvement in health care I doubt we will see any savings at all and will more likely see an increase in costs before ever adding one additional person to the system. The main problem with health care reform is that it will impose a heavy tax burden on most of the country, which results in people having a lot less disposable income to spend.
