Should the British,Chinese and Japanese wish the Americans a very happy independence day?
No one has any obligations to wish us well, nor should they wish us evil. The US sunk more money into all of our allies in WWII than can be imagined. Millions went to China to fight the Japanese that ended up getting stashed so the Chinese factions could later fight each other. Destroyers, tanks, munitions, ships, food, clothes, fuel, private charitable donations, and LIVES to all the rest. We seem to owe every industrial nation on the planet, and yet pour money into the third world which they do not. There is a small but dwindling segment in the US, who would never have gotten us in this monetary jam, as we are old fashioned pay as you go types, and would like to shape up, tighten our own belts and pay out of it ASAP, but we seem to be a minority.
I’d rather look forward to our Independence Day, bringing our troops home from Afghanistan, giving American forces in Britain their marching orders, and sending Blair, Brown and all the other State Department employees masquerading as British politicians back to their employers in a leaky rowing boat. Why can’t we buy Stars and Stripes loo rolls??? PS – Adam – Bullshit. The Marshall aid to Britain was halted when we elected a Labour government, and the last American public debt from WWII was paid off only a couple of years ago. We should have repudiated it on the day US aid was cut off, when we had stood almost alone against the Nazis for two years, while the US made quintillions out of supplying us with sub standard arms and munitions (did you know the Germans called Sherman tanks ‘Tommy cookers?’). Go and read some history (and while you’re about it, read about the Suez betrayal too).
