Should the British armed forces be barred from recruiting from our secondary schools?
I think you will find that: (a) we have the best armed forces in the world: (b) in WWI WWII we stood up to the mighty German war machine twice and defended the free world from enslavement; (c) in Korea, the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda and Sierra Leone our forces defended weak people who were under attack by superior forces; (d) in Afghanistan our forces are attempting to restore some semblance of normality to a country which otherwise would be under the rule of the evil Taliban and a training ground for our enemies. Our troops can’t come from nowhere and we don’t have conscription. Generally speaking all members of our armed forces are volunteers. No one “preys” on them – and 13-year-olds could be no better advised than nowadays of the horrors of war. Anyone who volunteers for armed service does so with the benefit of being exceptionally well-informed.
