Should the babysitter of Jada Justice be hit with neglect charges at this point in time?
GARY — From the first frantic call about a missing toddler Tuesday night, police had suspicions about the baby sitter’s version of events. A day later, Jada Justice, 2, has not been found, despite a massive search that spanned two neighboring cities and more than 18 hours. The baby sitter, Angelica Castillo, 18, of 3925 Missouri St., Hobart, is in custody facing charges of neglect of a dependent. She is a cousin to the missing girl’s mother, Melissa Swiontek of Portage. Castillo told Gary police she went to Glen Park Gas at 1401 E. Ridge Road about 9:40 p.m. Tuesday to buy milk, leaving Jada in her car seat with the doors unlocked. When she returned, Jada wasn’t there, Castillo said. But other customers told police they saw no one around Castillo’s 1991 maroon Cadillac Fleetwood while it was parked in the lot.
