Should the AFL be played in divisions or conferences like in Gridiron,soccer and Basketball?
Yes. But not conferences and divisions like those games. Instead there should be two leagues: one the AFL Premiership and the other being a 2nd tier national competition featuring relegation and promotion, and share draft picks, trades etc… AFL Premiership: West Coast Adelaide Hobart Launceston Sydney Swans West Sydney Brisbane Lions Gold Coast Collingwood Essendon Carlton Hawthorn Geelong Richmond (14 teams, 20 rounds in the Premiership) Coca Cola Cup (some other name, NAB or ANZ etc…) Fremantle Port Adelaide Northern Territory Auckland (plenty of players to play for NZ, and some locals) Cairns North Melbourne Melbourne St.Kilda Western Bulldogs (9 teams, 18 rounds in season) This format means there is a BIG premiership and 2nd tier national comp for teams looking to make the Premiership in following season.
