Should the advertising ban on junk food be extended to all types of advertising aimed at young children?
Advertising junk food to children is irresponsible because children often are not mature or informed enough to know what is healthy and what is not. If things are presented in a way that is appealing to children, they will likely assume that what is being advertised is good. They don’t always know how to distinguish instructions given by parents, lessons taught by teachers, and information presented through educational television and games, from basic advertising. Therefore, they might think a bag of chips is just as healthy as an apple. Banning junk food advertising for children avoids this confusion and allows them to learn healthy eating habits without being tempted by mass marketing.
