Should smacking children be banned? ?
Before I became a parent I’d have said that all smacking is wrong and only teaches the child to hate the parent, but since having kids myself I’d now say that that’s not altogether true. My youngest son is very well behaved and has never been smacked – he’s great and responds to time outs with no problem. My eldest, however, is very strong minded and can be rude and nasty for no particular reason. I can honestly say that a good smack would put him back into line, but I never have due to it being against the law. He doesn’t learn from his time outs and can be so obnoxious at times. He also thinks that his opinions are above ours and I can’t imagine how he’s going to turn out. He can be a good kid, but he is very difficult and I don’t think that a smack would be a bad thing. Kids these days don’t seem to be scared of anything or anyone, and i don’t think that a little bit of fear is a bad thing. I’m not condoning abuse, but a controlled smack isn’t abuse. People might disagree with me, b
