Should sex education be taught in school?
This is a “cultural war” issue, and both sides have good arguments. Unfortunately, sex education cannot be value-free. Conservatives are correct to view sex education as an imposition of secular liberal values. I come down on the side of minimum sex education, because the premise of sex education, starting forty years ago, was that it would lead to less pregnancy, less sexual activity among unmarried teens, and less STD. In fact, the opposite has happened. Modesty and abstinence have disappeared from common culture. We will regret this development. Incidentally, there’s a parallel with Driver Education. Driver Ed in High Schools was supposed to make safer drivers. Turns out the accident rate increased in High Schools that offered Driver Ed. So now, it’s quietly being abandoned…
