Should schools have rules on healthy lunch boxes?

As a teacher, I think it’s ridiculous to insist on certain food all the time. Yes, I can see the point in intervening if all a child was ever sent to school with was a can of coke, 3 bags of crisps and 2 chocolate bars, but if a child has a lunch that contains a variety of foods I think that’s up to the parents and the children. When I was a child the standard lunchbox, which pretty much every child had, contained a sandwich, a bag of crisps, a chocolate biscuit and a piece of fruit (which most kids left!). Not every child was obese, and in fact I would say there are more obese children at school these days than there were when I was school.
