Should Saddam Hussein Get the Death Penalty? Tuesday December 23, 2003 Paddle writes: My own opinion is that, no, he shouldn’t. He should be incarcerated for the rest of his miserable existence in suitably humiliating circumstances, to serve as a warning to others of his ilk. His accommodations should be adequate and no more, but plain and boring, and he should have a small explosive charge permanently strapped to his person that can be detonated by remote control if he somehow manages to escape! Not enough to kill him, just enough to cause severe and debilitating injury, so he can’t even use it as a means of suicide. I can’t really think of a much worse punishment than facing life imprisonment in miserable surroundings with absolutely no hope of escape, even by suicide. There’s a lot of debate over this issue.
