It is not entirely a bad idea. Consider that many believe that if one gets welfare, they should also be forced to work in some way; and the welfare-to-work reform that President Bill Clinton acheived was well-received by both sides of the aisle. Actually, now that you mention it, I think it could be a very good idea. The government cannot guarantee jobs; that is too massive an undertaking for any group or individual. But the government can work to create jobs, by doing such things as tax cuts for middle and lower class individuals. In that way, they have more money to buy things, thus creating demand (the buying of products) as well as profit when they pay for those products. With both increased demand and profit, businesses have both the money and the reason to expand and create new jobs. One of the reasons I always support Democrats is precisely because they give tax cuts to the middle and lower classes.
