Should Ricky Hatton retire?
Even before the fight Freddie Roach said he had interest in training him and I think Hatton still has things to learn that will make him a better fighter so I would tell him not to hang it up yet. There were flaws that were exploited in the Paquiao fight that Roach picked up on from Hatton’s earlier fights. Even the dominant heavyweight, Lennox Lewis, was exposed for certain tendencies he had when he was champion. Emmanuel Stewart picked up on a vulnerability and instructed a lesser fighter in Oliver McCall on how to beat Lewis and sure enough McCall knocked him out in two rounds. Years later after Emmanuel Lewis became Lennox Lewis’s trainer he corrected the weakness and made Lennox into an almost unstoppable boxer who would be one of the few who would avenge all of his losses in the ring. This being said — I still think that Manny Pacquiao would have beaten Ricky Hatton but perhaps not in the same quick and dominant fashion. I think if Hatton goes back to the drawing board and makes
Yes he should retire before permanent brain damage sets in, he has already been knocked out twice. If he does comeback it should be one last fight it should be against an easy opponent and he should re hire Billy Graham for the finally, that way he can go out a winner. He wasn’t a bad fighter just not as good as the top guys in the sport he only has 2 losses and both are and were the best pound for pound fighters in the world no shame in that.
of course he should retire.these people that says he has flaws that a different trainer can cure are speaking utter rubbish.after 12 years of trying to steamroll oppenents,he has neither the skills or potential to change.he is a one dimensional fighter who cant adapt, and there is never plan b to fall back on.i said manny would beat DLH,and said on this forum that he would “destroy”Hatton. The fact is,Hatton could win in his comfort zone of 140lbs,but when a boxer as strong and fast comes knocking,he is not in the same ball game.
