Should patients taking immune-compromising biologics like Enbrel, Methotrexate, etc., take special precautions?
I am a psychologist and have patients with these immune diseases in my practice who are anxious about the possibility that they may be especially vulnerable to swine flu. A: We know very little yet of how swine flu works and the mechanisms of how it causes illness. Until we have better information, it may be prudent to manage your patients as if it was a traditional influenza case until further information is available. We recommend that you may want to reach out to the CDC, which may have a clinical expert on hand for a definitive recommendation.
