Speaking only for myself, I think you’re a little fixated on this money issue. Whether or not parents pay for grad schoo, or any school really, has more to do with your familial and larger culture and less to do with exactly what your parents have in terms of dollar amounts. For my personal anecdote: my folks are somewhat well off now. They weren’t when we were all younger. They paid for college and I was on my own for grad school. It was always the expectation that this is how school would work. Their assumption/decision was that paying for college was sort of a right in my family but that grad school was my own decision and paying for it was my own responsibility. Both me and my sister paid our own way through grad school. I decided to go to a state school, take a long time to finish and didn’t take out loans. My sister went to a private school and took out loans. If I got into a bus accident and needed hospital care, they would help me out if I was in a jam, for elective further edu
