Should operational orders be used for special events even if forces have large volumes?
Where operational orders are created, good practice is that resources involved are costed to allow a review of operations after the event. Therefore information on the cost of operational orders should be available. • Is it sensible to treat VIPs (royalty) as a special event if a force doesn’t have a special protection unit. Treating VIPs as a special event is fine. This should be recorded under the National Policing role code and the appropriate category of VIP specified (refer to section 6.5.4 of the Manual).
