Should Onward Christian Soldiers Hymn be Banned?

0

Considering that a cricket team has been forced to change its name from “the crusaders”, it would be only consistent to ban “Onward Christian soldiers” … even though the crusading language is clearly a metaphor, political correctness does not make such fine distinctions. Songs like that bring back memories of another age … there is something touchingly naive about them. It makes you think of plunking, out of tune pianos and earnest Sunday school teachers with coke-bottle glasses. It is surely only a matter of time before it is banned, but I think many churches and schools have already quietly expunged it from their repertoire years ago. Of course it should not be banned, much as I am not a Christian soldier.
