Should Oklahoma Raise the State Minimum Wage? Tuesday June 20, 2006 There has been a push of late from some Oklahomans to raise the state minimum wage from the federal minimum of $5.15 to $6.15 by this coming January and to $7.15 by January of 2008. A rally was held Monday at the state Capital urging legislators to take up the issue in the special session. Supporters say a great number of those making minimum wage in Oklahoma are adults, and many are single mothers. The current wage, they claim, is simply not enough to support a family. Opponents of the raise say that higher wages will hurt a flourishing Oklahoma business climate. What do you think? POLL: Should Oklahoma Raise the Minimum Wage Above the Federal Minimum? 1)
