That means, if you chose the 100% aggressive stock portfolio in your Section 529 last January 1st, you’ve got to ride that choice out until the following January 1st. Many have argued that this is an unfair constraint to put on parents, most of whom have years of experience managing their own 401k’s and IRA’s. Now, there’s some rumbling in the industry about pressure being put on President-Elect Obama to change this rule, even if it is only to allow parents to change investment options 2-3 times per year.
