SHOULD NIGERIA HOST THE 2010 SOCCER WORLD CUP?
IFA has zoned the 2010 edition of the World Cup to Africa and I strongly recommend that Nigeria should do all that it will take to win the hosting rights. Since Nigeria submitted its initial bid to host the event, I have followed the debate on the home front with much interest and enthusiasm. Naturally, the debate for and against the idea has been fierce, lively and necessary but we must be factual, open, honest to ourselves, and seek the best interest of our country. The crux of the argument against our hosting hinges on the wisdom of spending huge sums of money on such an event when Nigerians are poor, hungry and starving in the millions. I say, that is the more reason why we should host the event. Nigeria has the money and if we do not use it for such a noble and prestigious world event, it will be spent on frivolities or end up in a Swiss bank account as usual.
