Should my 17 year old give his new girlfriend money?

Well, he should consider himself pimped – only, he OFFERED to give her the money. She probably would’ve been satisfied with just dinner. Most 17-year olds are not in a position to shell out cash to someone else. After all, he doesn’t live in his own place, he probably doesn’t even wash his own clothes. He should be giving his parents money to live under their roof if he wants to go around giving out money. If his girlfriend wants to get mad because he didn’t give her any money, then maybe he should consider finding a more grateful girlfriend – she just may be using him. Sometimes the nice ones are the ones who finish last. Keep your money in your pocket (=bank account).

Did she ask him for money? If not, then I don’t think she is using him. A part-time job paycheck after you take out dinner was most likely not that much cash to begin with…. But, young man, cash is very unromantic! Next time get a nice card and some flowers, even just one rose. And mom, he is 17 years old…time to back off and let him make his own choices a bit! I’d say you’re a bit over involved to be posting about it on yahoo. EDIT: Mom, there isn’t a more overprotective mom on the planet than me. I’m not saying don’t worry about him, don’t try and protect him, but getting involved in his dating life to the point that you are posting about his personal business is a bit extreme and strange…I’m a social worker and seriously, boundary issue here lady!
