Should mother of groom check with mother of bride about dress colors?
Wedding etiquette is that the mother of the bride chooses her gown first, and then the mother of the groom is supposed to check with her. After all, the mother of the bride knows what everyone in the wedding party will be wearing, and she is officially the hostess. The father of the bride is the host. This is the way its been done for a long time. The mother of the bride doesn’t have to wear the same colours as the wedding party, but they should complement or at least go well with them, because she and the grooms mother will be in some of the photos. If the mother of the groom is choosing a dress that is inappropriate, then its the mother of the bride’s job to try to help her choose something more appropriate. The groom should of course try to smooth the way for the MOB, because this can be a very awkward situation unless they know each other and get along.
