No, Materazzi should not press assault charges. The head butt by Zidane was ugly, very ugly. One of the worlds greatest players, had one of the best performances in a world cup, but the last moment that everyone will remember is a vicious head butt. It will mark his career like an ugly scar. Materazzi said something, whether it was a racial slur, or just something down right dirty. He did not deserve to receive the head butt, but he instigated it. Acts of violence like this happen in all sports, and sadly, it is a part of our world. Materazzi should just let it go, he was able to kick a penalty kick in, so the pain can not be that overwhelming. The pain that Zidane feels now, while he holds the trophy for MVP of the world cup is much stronger than paying a fine for a head butt. He has to live with that red card on his career forever.
