Should Mary Bell remain under lifelong anonymity?
I know the case of Mary Bell quite well, and I recently read the book by Gita Sereny. In most cases, the anonymity would probably be lifted by now, but I think because of the uniqueness of this case, it would be harmful to both mother and daughter if their details were to be released now. Although many people will never have heard of the case, there is bound to be some newspaper which will hound them both for stories, and this could lead to all sorts of problems for both of them. I think, for both their sakes, it would be better if their identities remained known only to them and their close ones. A huge media furore could have widespread consequences, not just for them but for anybody close to them.
