Should Mark McGwire be in the Baseball Hall of Fame?
First of all there is the basic assumption that he is innocent until proven guilty and while he has been accused of using certain performance enhancing drugs there is no proof that I know of. Secondly, the drugs that he has been accused of using were not banned by baseball at the time and so even if he did use them he didn’t break any rules. Finally, that wonderful summer during which he and Sammy Sosa battled it out for home run supremacy did more to reinvigorate baseball than anything in the last thirty years. Baseball had become somewhat disconnected from its fans but Mark and Sammy brought them back in droves with their ability and the gentlemanly way they played out the scenario. They both belong in the Hall of Fame and it would be a travesty for them to be overlooked.
