Should marijuana be legalized in the United States?
Yes. In addition to some of the general positive effects it has and its ability to mellow people out rather than make them aggressive as alcohol can, it has been linked to treating and preventing cancer. Studies have been done showing it can inhibit tumor growth. A study by Manuel Guzmán of Madrid, Spain, found that cannabinoids, the active components of marijuana, inhibit tumor growth in laboratory animals.
THe is a vexing question to which I would have answered YES to a few years ago but now have a few reservations about it. I would rather see possession deciriiminalised up to a certain limit. Firtsly, if I am to be balanced, I hate the word Marijuana. This is a perjorative word wiith Spannish routes that was used by ealy twentieth century anti-cannabis campainers to mkae it sound latin and strange to tap into xenophobi and racist attitudes. THhe motive was a fear that some of the industrial uses cannabis might have would threaten the coal, plastic and oil barons. It was a missplaced fear but enough to make them lie about the severity of the Drug. I don’t beleive cannabis kills (many of the carinogens are from mixing it with tobacco) and the idea that it is a “gateway drug” is no more valid than saying beer is a gateway to drinking meths. furthermore, its illegaility only increases the risk of users coming into contact with other illegal drugs from dealers. My problem with Cannabis is th
