Should Man Play God?
– The Issue of Ethics Scientific advancements are eroding traditional moral and religious boundaries, but this is more a cause of celebration than fear: this was the standpoint from which Dr. Alan Colman, Creator of ‘Dolly’ and Chief Scientific Officer, ES Cell International Pte Ltd and Dr. Justine Burley, Expert – Moral Philosophy and former Professor, Oxford University elaborated upon their joint presentation on the issue of ethics in scientific exploration at the Special Plenary Session “Should Man Play God”. Touching upon subjects of ongoing research (Genetic Engineering of Mammals, Xeno transplantation and Embryonic Stem Cells and reproductive cloning), Dr. Colman said that the benefits of such research could possibly reach out in providing cure to an unrivalled number of diseases including Parkinsons disease, neurological and spinal disorders.
