Should large marine animals be kept in captivity?
Pros: 1. The animals are given great care and are fed a healthy diet to meet their needs everyday. They are given medical check ups once every day by their trainers and once a week by the park veterinarian. 2. They don’t have to worry about predators coming after them like how they would out in the wild. 3. With these animals in captivity, we are able to study the behaviors of the animals in different perspectives. Trainers are able to get into the water with them, watch them at under water viewing areas, set up microphones in the tanks to listen to the vocalizations and to get better knowledge about their languages and a better understanding how these animals learn. Cons: 1. They can’t vocalize the same with their own specific pods, meaning there are different languages between the whales and dolphins at the parks, they don’t really understand what the other animal is trying to communicate to them. 2. They don’t really get to travel the same distances as they do in the wild each day.
