Should kids under 13 have TVs and Computers in their bedrooms?

It depends on the child and how responsible and mature they are and how good of a parent you are. If you set limits and stick to them and are consistent then it shouldn’t be a problem but if you are a wimpy parent and your child runs the show then it’s a bad idea. I have 4 boys 15 yr old twins who share a room and my 12 and 10 yr old share a room. Both rooms have a TV. They rarely watch it. My 10 yr old watches about 30 minutes before bed and that’s it. My twins will watch it if there is something they want to see but the living room TV is being used. My twins watch the history channel and discovery mostly. Actually I haven’t even had to set limits because they don’t watch it enough for me to have to. My younger two do not have a computer in their room, there is a desktop in the play/family room for them to use. My twins who are 15 both have their own mini laptops which they got from my mother in law for their 8th grade graduation. They mostly use them for school work but also use it t

TV I had a TV w/ cable and VCR in my room growing up. Didn’t have restrictions but I didn’t want to watch TV all day. I liked being with my friends. I LOVED books, too (I was a nerd) I fell alseep reading almost every night. My best friends down the street had the same. One was actually president of Book Club in high school (“Book Club” was actually her nickname). Sometimes, we would have sleepovers and just read in my room (kinda dorky but I loved it). The point of that little bit of shared info is that it pretty much depends on the kid. If your kid gets zoned out on tv and could watch it all day and not get bored, then no, they don’t need to have one in their room. If they’re abusing their power with it and watching something they know they’re not suppose to, then that TV is history (though in all honesty, EVERY kid has watched something they weren’t suppose to w/o their parent’s knowledge, I’m sure of it). Computer Personally, I don’t think teens need computers in their room, howeve

My kids have tv’s and games consoles in their rooms, they are very good at switching off at a reasonable time but not computers, I’m very aware the dangers of the net, so insist on log in details and I check regularly their activity, drives them mad (they are teenagers) but I once ran a parenting site, members would post alerts from some official website, it would contain an innocent looking profile, nice teenager pic etc and then underneath would be the real person, normally of a man pretending to be a child and his real intentions for been online, also I was shocked at the unwelcome attention the site drew because it was a parenting site, it was a real eye opener I took the network down. I do agree with you on this, parents should really be monitoring their children more.
