Should Indian enterprises consider adopting KVM switches when they have already deployed infrastructure management tools?
As KVM switches allow system administrators to control more than one computer at a time, they are gaining popularity in India. While infrastructure management systems help in identifying faults, they have limited capability for fixing devices without an IT administrator being present onsite to fix the systems. For example, without remote BIOS level access and the ability to reboot the machine, the IT administrator will have to travel to the site to fix the problem. In a data centre, this problem compounds, as there are hundreds of machines using different platform-dependent software packages. This makes the maintenance of servers an expensive affair.
