Should i visit lyon or avignon?
You are going to get different views according to people who have been either to one or the other. Research is not the same as actually having experienced things personally and can be misleading. The answer also depends on what interests you most in terms of culture and how much time you have at your disposal. Avignon is interesting because of its historical old centre within walls, and the awesome Palais des Papes, which dominates the town but no longer has any religious connections since the popes only resided there for six years in medieval times. It is now a historical museum with huge rooms, but sparsely furnished, and has a lot of modern documentation and photos of what it looked like at different periods, and its history. It also has an excellent audio commentary that you can listen to on earphones.
