Should I use sunblock, sunscreen, or cosmetics that contain them?
Obviously you know that getting sunburned is extremely harmful to your health. That said, you have several choices: • Stay out of the sun except for short periods. Twenty minutes of sunshine daily is important for Vitamin D and your overall health. • Cover up with a good hat and protective clothing while you’re outside. • Apply a sunscreen or sunblock to exposed skin. Chemical sunscreens with oxybenzone and similar ingredients are not good for us. Some studies believe they are related to the 200% increase in melanoma since 1935. Read more about chemical sunscreens. The mineral sunblocks, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, are occlusive, not allowing the skin to breathe. Their nano-particle forms, although less occlusive, create some safety concerns for our bodies and the environment. Read more about toxins to avoid.
