Should I use Rune of the Stoneskin Gargoyle or Rune of Swordshattering?
Stoneskin Gargoyle was designed and implemented for 3.0.8 based on community feedback that Death Knights were having difficulty reaching 540 defense and the uncrittability mark. I can’t say I agree with this, because I have never had the experience of difficulty getting and keeping 540 defense, even during transitional phases from blue gear to epics (which, in general, will have less Defense than blues, but more avoidance/hit/expertise). Then again, I’m also well that I am a number cruncher at heart, and I take a great deal of enjoyment in moving gear, gems, and enchants around to attain a goal. Other people do not. Stoneskin Gargoyle, it seems, is for those people; the ones who don’t want to think about the itemization of their gear but rather simply have their epics be a direct and immediate upgrade over their blues.
