The chances of your being able to make a significant amount of money to pay for university right now is very small. Keep in mind that even if your parents let you live there for the year, you should be paying them for your expenses once you are out of school, and most high school grads don’t earn very much. Very few people are able to save enough in a year to make much of a dent in college costs. If your family doesn’t have money, you may be eligible for grants and other forms of financial aid which would pay for college for you. If they do and are just unwilling to pay for it, you still may be able to get help for a lot of it and take out some loans to pay for the rest. I would apply this year, then if you aren’t offered enough financial aid, I would consider other options, like starting out at a community college for a couple of years before transferring to a university.
