It is typically not necesary to do an swremove before installing the Support Tools on a system with an older version of Support Tools. On HP-UX 10.20, if the old version of Support Tools is earlier than May 1997 (IPR 9705), then it is advisable (but not necessary) to do an swremove. (If you do an swremove of the Support Tools on HP-UX 10.20, it will cause the system to reboot after the removal takes place.
