Should I recieve IV antibiotics for a c-section?

0

Low risk moms who are having a scheduled c-section have no reason to think that their babies would contract GBS provided labour has not started and their membranes are intact. These moms may not be offered IV antibiotics in labour. Un-scheduled c-section moms – who have undergone a trial labour or whose membranes may be compromised should already be recieving IV antibiotics and should for the c-section as well. Currently the CDC guidelines do not differientiate between management for vaginal births and for c-section births. It is expected that they will suggest that scheduled, low risk, pre-labour GBS+ moms with intact membranes will NOT be offered IV antibiotics prior to the c-section to prevent GBS infection.
