Should I pick the Ragnarok Esper or the sword?
In previous versions of this game, this was a difficult decision. In this version, it is recommended that you choose the Esper. You can obtain more copies of the Ragnarok sword by Stealing from the third tier of the final boss, but this is your only opportunity to obtain the Esper. If you are not a completionist, though, there are advantages to both the sword and Esper. The Esper teaches you Ultima, a grossly overpowered spell. Plus, you use the Espers summon, Metamorph, to obtain certain rare items, though Metamorph is incredibly inaccurate and fails most of the time. The sword is a powerful weapon for Terra, Locke, Edgar and Celes that deals automatic critical hits, randomly casts Flare, and gives decent stat boosts. However, you will probably want to bet it for a Lightbringer, which is even more powerful and gives better stat boosts. Also, do note that you can learn Ultima through the Paladin Shield if you chose the sword.
