Should i notify my orthodontist if a spacer falls out?
Usually if the spacer falls out, “without any help,” it means that there is enough room and the spacer isn’t needed anymore. To make sure there is “space,” take a piece of floss and double it, then double the floss “again,” then try to put it in between the teeth in that area as if you were going to floss, but don’t. If it goes in without you applying a lot of force, then you have enough space. Keep an eye on that area, you want it to “stay open.” So if you notice it’s “starting to get tight” you will need to go in for “another spacer to be placed.” Most of the time it means that there is more than enough space there for us to put the bands on. If you just aren’t sure, ask your mom or dad to take a look and read this information. Take care and good luck with your ortho! I’m sure you’ll be fine without the spacer now. Additional information: I tell all of our patients when we place spacers, that if “one comes out on it’s own” without the help of candy, flossing or your playing with it..
