Should I major in NUCLEAR or PETROLEUM engineering?
It really depends upon your area of interest, but there is significantly more global availability for Petroleum Engineers as compared to Nuclear Engineering. I’ve been told that we are running out of oil for the past 35 years but that is just not the case. We are just running out of “cheap” oil reserves and it takes technology to keep up with the demand for future supplies. Petroleum Engineers will be in high demand for the next 30 years. Also, if you are interested in salaries, Petroleum Engineers earn among the highest of all BS degrees if not the highest at least in the USA at around $70,000 to $80,000 per year to start plus bonuses. MS degrees in Petroleum Engineering earn significantly more. However, that depends upon your GPA, extra circular activities, etc during college. Not sure that you could have an engineering minor but check with a university with that question. You could pursue a dual major in both nuclear and petroleum but those degrees are not really complimentary with
